That's a time when the lights and tastes of Christmas Market embrace the Bratislava's Old Town...

Christmas Market takes place at Main Square – in the very heart of the Old Town - Staré Mesto. The Main Square is surrounded by old-time fancy palaces and renovated elegant buildings. One of the most popular city events - Christmas Market tradition goes back to 1993 when the Old Town renewal works comes to a successful end. With growing number of guests coming every year, little shops and stands spread over and surround the whole Main Square as well as neighbouring Franciscans and the Old Town Hall squares.

Today you can choose small Christmas presents or souvenirs within a wide-range of products offered at more than 90 stands. You can buy various hand-made products: jewels, glass, diverse decor-candles, clothing, ceramics etc….
But the Christmas Market is not only about the shopping. In brightly decorated stands you can also taste traditional delicious dishes and drinks: warmed-wine, rum, sausages, potato pancakes, grilled meat specialities, cabbage soup, bread with onion, honey -cakes and other local specialities...

A big Christmas tree decorated with over 9000 electric candles and ornaments is towering over the Main Square. Next–door at an outdoor stage diverse concerts and performances take place in the course of December full with this distinctive and special atmosphere.
Christmas Market ends on 23rd of December.
Although Christmas Market in Bratislava has its own unforgettable atmosphere, you can do your Christmas shopping easily in one of the modern shopping centres. The biggest one - Aupark Shopping Centre – is situated on the other side of Danube river, only ca 10 minutes walking from a downtown.

For the New Year's Eve you have the opportunity to order tickets for New Year Gala concert that traditionally takes place at the Slovak National Theatre and Opera.
We also recommend you to combine your city break with the Christmas Market and shopping in Vienna. You will have an opportunity to compare the twin-cities, their differences as well as similarities.

The largest Vienna Christmas Market takes place at the Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) as well as near the Schönnbrunn and Belvedere Palaces. But you can also find the Christmas stands at Kärtnerstrasse – the famous pedestrian zone situated in the heart of the city.
